Julia Marie Faussone is the lead singer of indie/rock band Give up the Girl and one part of the duo, Vida-West
with Stacy McClarnon. The middle daughter of David and Connie Faussone, she has two sisters, Cristina and
Teresa. Julia grew up in Redwood City California, singing in church and in theater.
For her first album, Julia Marie recorded a set of blues cover songs by artists such as Robert Johnson,
Elmore James and Robert Wilkins. "I immersed myself and fell in love with the blues, listening to everything I
could get my hands on. I sang the blues at coffee shops and played over a hundred shows within in a year.
The raw depth of emotion in the songs inspired me to sing with total commitment and passion." And
passionate she is, offering it up sweetly on this unique, soulful tribute.
As a follow up she recorded an EP titled Midnight Muse of her original songs. This EP gives her listeners a
preview of her first full album of songs. Her album, Restless, is a candid exploration of the life of an artist
navigating through love, lust, heartbreak, and dreams is sure to intrigue her growing audience.
When Julia meet musician Stacy McClarnon, they immediately began singing and writing songs together,
forming the duo Vida-West. In 2009, Julia was asked by musician John Lee Ellis to join a project that needed
a lead singer. They all hit it off and formed Give up the Girl with Steve McNiel on guitar, Jon Lee Ellis on
drums and Johnny Marckx on bass. Give up the Girl is currently recording their first album on Mambo
Records. "I thrive on collaboration and feel honored to be writing and singing with such amazing, talented
musicians. I am truly blessed."
This year Julia won the American Girl National Anthem Contest and had the honor of singing on the famous
Wrigley Field in the great city of Chicago on July 2nd, 2010. With her mom, dad and sister, Teresa, there to
support her it was "the thrill of a lifetime!"
Julia is now working on a collection of poems, to be released in
2011.
Julia Marie performs
regularly in the Los Angeles area.
